Man, F.E.A.R.2 was SO decent. The enemy A.I. was BADLY downgraded, and there’s some bullshit like, you know, they’ll instantly aim and hit you instead of *not*, but some of the scares in it were AMAZING. Remember the pool in the first level? I do. The school was crazy, too. Overall, despite having somewhat inferior gameplay, it was a RESPECTABLE sequel. And there are few endings in video game history better than Alma “raping” you.(it was completely consensual)

The Packerhaus Method

Sad story.

Uhh… girl’s visiting some old woman and they’re sitting and talking. She’s(girl) is a social worker. Hag’s cousin created the Packerhaus Method, a method of preserving dead bodies so well that they can continue “living” with a little electrical stimulation and fans. They can move a bit, they can speak, they can think(though they can’t create new long-term memories). They can’t walk though, so they need to uh… travel around on little wheeled carts.

Anyway… lemme just skip to the end, how about that? Here’s where things—already dark—get depressing:

“Meow,” said the cat.

The social worker leaned forward to stroke it, but found she could not leave her chair. The clock ticked. A slow horror filled her, and there was an agonizing tightness in her throat. She should be crying, she knew; but there was no moisture in her eyes.

Poor girl was dead the entire time, and you realize then that she’d been acting forgetful throughout the story. There’s a part where she wants to go home and “looks around vaguely for her bag.” Of course it’s not even there, she’s looking for something she probably hasn’t had with her in a long time.

Anyway… how do I want to… basically the old woman’s been poisoning the people around her when she invites them for tea. She probably killed her cousin, she killed her father(or grandfather?), she killed the meter man, and she killed the social worker. We know this because she says herself that they all, including the girl, had “stomach cramps”.

A new social worker comes, since obviously the last one(our girl) disappeared. She has some tea, because the poor dead social worker doesn’t know to warn her not to drink it. Soon she hears her gagging in the other room.

The social worker and the meter man say they plan on getting married. (She’s already forgotten that she’s dead) To me, maybe I’m wrong, but I think that reveals the reason why they were poisoned: she didn’t want to lose them. And that’s one of the last memories they formed.

What else… her father? The story later starts to call him “Grandfather”, so I guess the old woman is acting like they’re her family—the social worker being her daughter. Unless I’m off there… but it is also entirely possible that that IS her grandfather, since his body is being preserved. In fact, that’s probably … but then why is the old woman acting like he’s only her father?

I can’t say for sure. But anyway… it’s sad, that’s all. That quote really hit me, man. “She should be crying, she knew.”
