To the Dark Tower Came

This story was a nightmare Gene Wolfe had. Two knights(kinda) are in a tower. A really, really, really big tower. Like maybe it stretches to the Moon. Or rather, maybe it stretches to Earth. They’re trying to go down. One of them, Kent(apparently a descendent of Clark Kent) tries going out the window, but there’s uh… giant vampire-bats and they’re tearing people off the tower who are trying to climb up the vines.

So they take the stairs, he and uh… his friend.

You know, this kinda reminds me of the Tower of Glas from The Wizard Knight, which is—btw, Brave’s Leo AI is a disgrace to the name Leo. ...well, I guess I can think of other, far worse disgraces to the name Leo, to be Frank.

Anyway look how bad it is:

idr if it was called that name, or what it was made of, but it is *absolutely* not the “seat of power for Sir Thunrolf”, and Sir Thunrolf is not a giant. Just total nonsense. Leo is just *terrible* and I can’t think of a reason to use it, ever. If only I could remember to change the default search engin—actually hold on, I think I can just turn Leo off. I’ll do that. Brave’s search engine allowing you to blacklist websites that’d normally be highly-ranked like Reddit or “Rational Wiki”(lmfao) actually make it pretty cool.

But anyway… the Tower of Glas is a tower which connects… at least 2 different worlds iirc. It might be time to re-read the books soon. Anyway the tower is SO BIG that it once stored all the weaponry of the world. How about that?

AND, it’s where Able meets his two fire aelfgirls, they were attacking him in the form of GIANT BATS.

But there are no lithe nubile elf girls in heat for Kent. There are only giant rats.

When they get down to a throne room(one of many apparently) they’re attacked by rats. They kill them, but Kent gets badly bitten. The young teenage king of the tower comes down with his entourage of girls with flames for eyes and is like “Who are you?” and they’re like “We’re your couriers” and he’s like “I don’t remember you but whatever.”

He waltzes off and Kent’s fren tries to stop the bleeding. It was a big rat. Eventually Kent’s like “Hey call him back. I’m gonna go out the window and leap the tower in a single – “whatever the Superman quote is, you know lol.

That’s basically it. I’d like to think the boy-king will save Kent. Idk the deal with the tower; they were going down, but which way is down, really?

bro, the ending is just exhausting. Can we-- can YOU AND I both be honest with each other? Running back and forth to freeze and heat up the key card, fighting Liquid in the REX, having to fistfight him, all bad enough AND THEN THE CHASE SEQUENCE

I BARELY had any health left as I squeaked by to safety with Meryl. That part where Liquid’s driving right freaking next to you? YOU CAN’T HIT HIM if you aim at him, you, HIS HEAD IS UNDER THE FREAKIN LINE OF FIRE but… I guess if you aim at the mounted gun on the back of his vehicle, that works.

And there’s higher difficulties, too. You know, Japan got ONE difficulty that was equal to our “Easy” mode? Our “hardcore gamers” ruined everything.

It’s all just so ball-busting, man. Twin Snakes’ ending was sooooooooo much easier. SOOOOOOOO much. It really kinda made me fed up.

And then I had to fight Vamp in MGS2.

Kojima is an asshole.

I will admit that shooting out the lights so Vamp can’t freeze you is a cool detail. But the entire fig—I’m just coping. I got it done. It wasn’t fun but I got it done. And I did it non-lethal, so I probably made it a little harder on myself than I needed to.

Then I had to freakin drag Otacon’s sister around. Until Vamp randomly comes back just to kill her and put Otacon through another tragedy.

Now I’m naked and Olga freed me because we’re all pawns in the Patriots’ game. And of course unlike her, Raiden has shaven armpits 😪 literally more attractive than her.

I’m close to the end, right? Tell me I’m close.

I’m so tired. Otacon losing his sister was sad. You know what else is sad? Sitting through a 10 minute exposition cutscene every 5 minutes of gameplay. And I like it, the … The President telling you about the Patriots was pretty cool.

But man am I TIRED.

As a game? Coming to these earlier ones after first playing MGSV is like a nightmare. The gameplay of MGSV is so *tight* . It’s TIGHT. You know games that just have TIGHT control? Like the opposite of Rockstar games. Like Mario 64 or Breath of the Wild.

Snake’s so easy to run and jump around with and aaaaall the different things you can do—it’s just a total joy. Unless you’re fighting the fucking SKULLS.

--MGS1 and 2 aren’t really bad, a lot of 2 is actually fun when you’re just fighting soldiers. I love just holding up everyone on a level and making them face the wall. They—maybe I’m just tired.
