I love the Ys series. It's GOOD. I only discovered it uhhh... last year or the year before that, but idk, I instantly loved it.
am i going insane? why do i feel like I've talked about this before... anyway... I've played a lot of them, so I'll just jot down a few thoughts...
Ys1&2
so good that the second half of each game is like being tortured and they're still amazing. I've played the PC remake, the DS version, the TGCD version multiple times, and a bit of the SMS and FC versions. THEY'RE JUST GOOD! great atmosphere, great music, great characters. Great.
Ys 3
-playing atm-- it's fun, but it's also kinda torture-- it's the Zelda 2 of Ys, a punishing side-scroller. i'll have more to say later.
Ys 4
haven't played yet-- there's 2 of them, one on PCE and one on SNES. plan on it.
Ys 5
playing rn on the SNES-- a lot of fun! much easier than most Ys games, but there's an EXPERT version that's harder. no thanks.
Ys 6
PC version and PSP version-- a lot of fun. the first one i played after 1&2, MAYBE my favorite? great world, great characters, story-- im just going to call every aspect of every game "great", aren't i? anyway. has cute girls with big elf ears, very important! the PS2 version, I've only played a bit of, but it has voice acting and Adol's equipment actually changes appearance on him (the holy grail of JRPGs)
Ys 7
PC: THE WORST YS GAME? no--well, maybe. it gets very repetitive, but it's also a lot of fun anyway. very TIGHT gameplay.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
Switch version-- a ton of fun, but haven't gotten TOO far...
Ys: Memories of Celceta
PC-- comfy and fun. kinda like a better version of Ys 7. The only thing wrong with it is that this is when Adol stopped carrying a shield. TRAGIC.
Ys: The Oath in Felghana
a remake of Ys 3. PC has English voice acting that's actually good, which is insane to me as someone who is usually so sickened by English voice acting that games become unplayable. A sister-game to Ys VI, same graphics and gameplay. Oath has better music, but VI has elf ear girls AND multiple towns
Ys: Monstrum Nox
only played the demo--very impressive gameplay, but I'm a little concerned about what the world will be like.
